Work with me in my Choirs
Apart from my singing lessons, I also work with choirs. Adults might be interested in joining the Yeoman Singers Shrewsbury or Shifnal Chorale. Children and Young People will receive free musical education at the Children’s and Youth Choirs of Shrewsbury Cathedral.
The Yeoman Singers Shrewsbury
The Yeoman Singers are a mixed community choir based in Fitz Village Hall, just outside Shrewsbury. The choir has existed for over forty years and was founded in Yeoman Cottage, lending its name to the choir until today. The Yeomans stand for community: friendship and excellent music making go hand in hand and they regularly fundraise for local charities. Most recently, they sang Vivaldi’s Gloria at Shrewsbury Cathedral, performed a Christmas Concert with the Shropshire Chamber Orchestra and performed a joint concert with Vox Aurea, an award-winning Finnish Youth Choir. The Yeomans love exploring a mix of musical styles, so you can expect to sing Classical Music, Pop Music and Songs from Musicals. The choir welcomes anybody who likes singing and can commit to rehearsing with us on a Tuesday evening (7:15pm for a cup of tea, the rehearsal runs from 7:30-9pm). There is no audition and everybody is welcome. You can email me for more information.
Shifnal Chorale
Shifnal Chorale is a mixed SATB choir that explores the big works (most recently, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, and Faure’s Requiem). The membership consists of music teachers and enthusiasts with varied experience. What unites Shifnal Chorale is our love of exploring good music. The results of this can be heard in three concerts per year. Members come from as far as Bridgnorth, Newport, and Wolverhampton. Shifnal Chorale rehearses in Lilleshall Memorial Hall. The choir is unauditioned—come and try it out, and you’ll get a feel for whether you fit. There is also a Come and Sing at the end of January/beginning of February, where you can try out the choir without any pressure. Please email me for more information.
Children’s and Youth Choirs of Shrewsbury Cathedral
Music Education, and especially singing, should be a vital part of children and young people’s lives. Shrewsbury Cathedral Choirs offer the opportunity for professional music-making to children from the age of 8. We invite children to join us for 6 weeks, after which we hold a short audition. The Children’s Choir rehearses on Thursdays 5-6pm and sings Mass on Sundays. The choir is free of charge. We also have a small number of choral scholarships available. Email me for more information.
